Super 8 Finale or Warrior Blue & Gold Game?

Before they can get to the Stanely Cup, and before they can reach the Frozen Four, many of hockey's greatest first cut their teeth at the Super Eight.  The Super Eight determines the Massachusetts High School State Championship - officially called the Division 1-A tournament.  It is considered one of the most prestigious high school hockey tournaments in the country and it produces NHL players and National Championship teams.

Like with any great hockey institution, the Valley Junior Warrior Alumni are well represented.  Five of the eight high schools participating in the tournament list VJW Alumni on their rosters for a total of THIRTY-ONE alumni in total.

Last night, in the semi-final round, 2014-2015 Champion St. John’s Prep displaced top-seeded BC High with a 5-3 win to advance to the finals.  Malden Catholic removed Pope Francis from the equation with a 3-1 semi-final victory. Once again, it will be a match up of St. John's Prep against Malden Catholic at the TD Garden on March 20.

And like last night, many VJW Alumni will again take the ice...here's a quick look at 2015-2016 VJW - Super Eight by the numbers:

  • 21 players in the final game wore the Warrior Blue & Gold
  • 11 St. John's Prep players are VJW Alumni
  • 10 Malden Catholic players are VJW Alumni
