Westwood Youth Hockey Joins Valley Hockey League

Haverhill, Mass. -

The Valley Hockey League is excited to announce Westwood Youth Hockey will be joining the VHL for the 2019-20 season. Westwood is making the move from the South Shore Conference, which they were part of for the past 20 years.

Westwood brings with them 12 teams ranging from mites all the way through two half season and one full season midget teams.

Geographical reasons and competition level were two main factors causing the move. “We wanted to play against local towns and make sure our kids are playing against the right competition throughout the course of the season,” program director Ed Galvin said.

VHL’s attention to parity was another important factor. “If a team isn’t placed properly they get moved quickly and that was important to us.”

Galvin said getting back to the basics was another deciding factor. “We wanted to get back to the roots of what makes youth hockey great and that’s playing with your friends. We have a lot of kids who play town and club hockey, so we want to make sure we have an offering that is competitive.”

The Valley Hockey League looks forward to welcoming Westwood for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
